About us
CiRAM – Interdepartmental Research Centre on the Adriatic and the Mediterranean, at the University of Macerata, was established on November 6, 2019. It aims to act as a catalyst and promoter of research activities at the University on issues related to the Adriatic and Mediterranean regions and the surrounding geographical areas (the so-called "enlarged Mediterranean"), based on the following methods:
- Promoting the study of the historical, legal, social, political, economic, and cultural aspects that link an area that has, since ancient times, represented a space for meeting and exchange between different civilizations.
- Paying attention to the current role of Italy and the European Union in the Adriatic area and the Mediterranean.
- Considering various forms of cooperation at the sub-regional level, with particular attention to the development of the EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region (EUSAIR).
- Activating cooperation with national and international institutions, bodies, and associations, both public and private, that share the research interests of the Centre.
- Providing expert advice to national and local institutions, non-governmental organizations, and private entities operating in the research areas of interest to the Centre.
The activities of CiRAM are based on the use of an interdisciplinary approach and the pursuit of cognitive, descriptive ("basic research"), educational, and training objectives. The objectives of the Centre will be achieved through the following activities:
- Promoting individual and group studies and research.
